RA Position Description The Office of Residence Life at NCCC is committed to the education and development of student potential, both academically and personally.  The Office of Residence Life & Housing seeks to maximize student involvement and learning through leadership opportunities, social activities, and academic support programs designed to foster student engagement.  The Resident Assistant (RA) is an essential staff member and supports the mission by facilitating and managing the following areas of Residence Life:

 Responsibilities

  • Establish a safe and comfortable living environment for residents
  • Be a positive role model
  • Serve as a helper and referral source for residents
  • Plan and execute programming in the residence halls
  • Participate in a duty rotation
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned
  • Participate in training and scheduled in-services
  • Report maintenance issues in a timely manner
  • Enforce university policies and procedures
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Actively support your Community Council’s scheduled activities
  • Support other hall staff functions and programs

Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a full-time student at North Country Community College during the academic year
  • RA must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25
  • Knowledge of campus and its resources
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to relate to students
  • Must be a strong role model and remain in good standing
  • Must participate in all training: RA training, monthly in-services, and other activities pertaining to professional development

Position Requirement / Terms of Employment

The Resident Assistant position is a live-in member of the Residence Life team and assists the Associate Director of Residence Life & Housing with the responsibilities for one residence hall, its occupants and facilities. Primary responsibilities include establishing a safe and comfortable living environment. The RA will be on duty a few nights a week including weekends. Some situations may need the RA to respond to incidents that require assistance from law enforcement and emergency responders. The duration of employment is from Fall RA Training to the end of finals week in the spring. The Resident Assistant reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life & Housing and in functional areas to other members of the North Country Community College Association staff. Resident Assistants are compensated the cost of their housing for the duration of their employment ($3100 value per semester)
