Lynne Fisher Kemp
North Country Community College (NCCC) has been a prominent fixture in Lynne Fisher Kemp’s entire life.
She was born in the original Saranac Lake hospital, which is now Hodson Hall on NCCC’s Saranac Lake campus. She grew up in nearby Lake Clear and graduated from the Saranac Lake school system. After living in Massachusetts and Florida for several years and working in the hospitality industry, Lynne returned to her hometown in 1976 to find a new life direction.
Her time as a student at NCCC provided her with just that opportunity. She graduated in 1978 as an Associate in Arts (social science emphasis), and soon transferred to SUNY Potsdam as a computer science major. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree, Lynne moved to the Washington, DC, area, where she was a software developer and manager for two small government contracting firms.
Lynne married her husband, Terry, in 1987, and they relocated to Colorado for graduate school. Lynne worked in software development and received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Colorado. After their first daughter was born, Terry and Lynne moved back east, living and working in Syracuse, NY, before finding themselves in Saranac Lake, where their second daughter was born.
Lynne worked in economic development and as a staff accountant in a CPA firm before being hired by NCCC as Instructor of Computer Science in 1999. She taught for 20 years, retiring in 2019 as a Professor of Business. As fate would have it, her last office was in Hodson Hall.
Lynne has not yet achieved her primary retirement goal of sorting out all of the belongings that have accumulated in the former tuberculosis cure cottage that she and Terry restored and made a home, but she has worked temporary jobs, served on a board, discovered yoga, and traveled internationally. She has continued to pursue her life-long interests in the arts, sewing, volunteering, and reading. She is pleased to return to NCCC as an adjunct accounting instructor.
