Michael Corey
Mike started his adjunct instructor career at NCCC in Ticonderoga on a part-time basis in the fall of 2008, teaching an Introduction to Human Services class. Over the next several years he taught Developmental Psychology, Delivery of Human Services, and Basic Counseling Skills. After about seven years of not being an adjunct, Mike started teaching at the Ti campus again in the spring of 2018, and has been teaching one class per semester since then, thoroughly enjoying the experience. The classes are generally pretty small (five to eight students), but they are lively classes, with plenty of opportunity for the instructor as well as students to learn – a great experience!
Mike lives in Minerva, NY, a small town nearly an hour west of Ticonderoga, with his lovely spouse Sue, a dog and a cat. Their two children are married and each lives at least two hours away from where they graduated: Minerva Central School. Mike and spouse have one two year-old granddaughter. He’s semi-retired, but maintains his part-time adjunct position at NCCC, works per diem for local paid rescue squads (he’s an EMT-Critical Care), and also subs at Minerva Central School when he can.
Mike has an AAS degree from SUNY Morrisville in Natural Resources Conservation, a BS from SUNY CESF in Forest Biology, a MS from SUNY CESF in Environmental and Forest Biology, and a MS in School Counseling from the College of Saint Rose in Albany – he’s got a nice permanent School Counselor Certification courtesy of the NYS Education Department. Mike worked for about 22 years for the great State of New York as a biologist and planner, and seven years mostly part-time as a school counselor in nearby Adirondack schools. Over the years he has worked in many positions in numerous locations and has enjoyed the diversity of his work experience. He is a big fan of the out-of-doors, and is an avid hiker, snowshoer and skier.
