Attendance
Each department is responsible for obtaining records of actual time worked for classified staff and for obtaining records of days off for classified and non-classified staff. These records must be used by the department to determine overtime pay for classified staff and to verify labor costs, sick leave, personal days, bereavement days, floating holidays and vacation allowances for both classified and non-classified staff. All time and attendance records must be submitted to Human Resources by established deadlines for record keeping purposes.  To ensure accurate records please completee the Request for Leave or Approved Absence form and return to Payroll.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

The FMLA entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.  To request FMLA please complete the FMLA Notice and return it to the Benefits Office.

Worker’s Compensation

This is an employer-paid insurance that provides care for workers who are injured or become ill as a direct result of their job.  If and accident or illness has occured please complete the Accident/Personal Injury Report Form and return it to the Benefits Office.

Other Paid Leaves

The following types of leave are required to be approved per New York State Law.  If you are requesting leave for one of the following reasons please note it on the leave slip as it will not be deducted from you leave accruals.

Jury Duty Leave - Jury Duty Leave is covered in full by the college for full time employees.  Documentation of participation is required.
Breast Cancer Screening Leave - Chapter 362 of the Laws of 2002 amended the New York State Civil Service Law to entitle employees to take up to four hours of paid leave annually for screening for breast cancer.  Every public employee, male and female, is permitted this benefit.  
Prostate Cancer Screening Leave - 237 of the Laws of 2004 amended the New York State Civil Service Law to entitle employees to take up to four hours of paid leave annually for screening for prostate cancer.  Every public employee is permitted this benefit.  

Blood Donation Leave - Section 202-j of the New York State Labor Law mandates that employers provide leave time to employees for the purposes of donating blood.

Off-campus
Leave granted to employees for off-premises blood donation is not required to be paid leave.  Employees are permitted one unpaid leave period per calendar year of three hours during the employee’s regular work schedule.  Documentation shall be submitted indicating that the absence was for the purpose of blood donation off-premise.

On-campus
Leave taken by employees for blood drives at NCCC shall be paid leave given without requiring employees to use existing leave time.  Employees are permitted two leave periods per calendar year during the employee’s regular work schedule. 

Election Leave - Employees who do not have sufficient time outside of working hours to vote in statewide elections may take up to three (3) hours of paid time off at the beginning or end of the work shift.  Employees must provide notice of their intent to take this time off no fewer than two (2) working days before the election.
