Soft Skills Workshops

What are soft skills? “Soft skills” are abilities, traits, and behaviors that contribute to how effectively
you relate to and collaborate with others. Some examples of soft skills are business
communications, problem solving, teamwork, office practices, and emotional intelligence.
Whenever we interact with coworkers, students, and customers, soft skills are at play.
They also make a difference in self-guided work: time management, organization, and
adaptability all fall under the umbrella of soft skills.
Why soft skills training? In recent years, the college's Business Deparment Advisory Board participants and
members of the local business community have told us that "soft" skills are missing
in their new (and sometimes current) employees. It's difficult for managers to train
new hires in conversational skills with clients, co-workers and management. Also,
there is the "dress for success" component - businesses are finding the appropriate
attire is not always used by employees. Even answering the phone and taking messages
is a skill that needs to be taught.
What can we do for you? Review the provided checklist and let us know your needs. If there is a skill that is not mentioned as an opportunity, our Business Department
team will research and develop a "lesson" to meet that need. We have years of experience
in business as well as teaching at the college level and can tailor curriculum to
that business's specific needs and requests.
What will you get out of it? An investment in this training will yield a return that improves customer confidence,
service and satisfaction. Employees who understand the "rules of the road" not only
create loyal and repeat clientele, but are easier to work with as members of the team.
AND the college can repeat the training in other domains, or every year, to ensure
that the instruction is fresh and relevant for the business.
