College Launches Scholarships-4-Everyone Program
June 8, 2023
SARANAC LAKE – In an effort to remove financial barriers for those looking to start or complete college, North Country Community College has announced a new program that provides scholarship opportunities for every student.
The four tiers of the Scholarships-4-Everyone program offer scholarships to both full-time and part-time students in amounts ranging from $500 up to the full cost of tuition.
“This year we have more scholarship and grant funding for students than ever before,” said Kyle Johnston, North Country’s vice president for marketing and enrollment. “Every type of student is eligible, so if you’re fresh out of high school, or you have been away from education for a while, we have a scholarship program that will fit you.”
There are four primary scholarship opportunities for current and incoming students:
- 6 on Us Scholarship: This grant-supported scholarship program allows new students (or returning students that have stepped away from college at least three years) to take up to six credits for free.
- Essex and Franklin Scholars Awards: For first-time students who reside in Essex or Franklin counties and who have graduated from a public high school in Essex or Franklin counties, this award covers up to the full cost of tuition for four semesters. Students must graduate high school with at least an 85% cumulative average and have a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Distinction. Enrollment in fifteen credits per semester is required.
- NCCC Foundation Opportunity Scholarship: For full-time and part-time degree seeking students that do not qualify for the Essex/Franklin Scholars Award, 6 on Us or Hodson scholarship programs.
- NCCC Foundation Scholarships: Providing student scholarships and awards is a top priority for the NCCC Foundation. The generosity of donors allows for a variety of scholarships and awards to be made available each year so that a college education can be within reach of every student.
“Our NCCC Foundation has been busy fundraising throughout the year so that we can once again award up to 80 Opportunity Scholarships to applicants that demonstrate need,” Johnston said. “And we received a sizeable SUNY Enrollment Grant this year that will help us to launch our 6 on Us scholarship program that will provide at least 60 more scholarships to applicants that are eager to give college a try, too.”
The Opportunity Scholarship is generously supported by Adirondack Foundation, Casella Waste Management, Cloudsplitter Foundation, Joan and Bill Grabe, J.M. McDonald Foundation, Inc., NCCC Foundation, Stewarts/Dake Family Foundation, and an anonymous donor.
