Wilderness Rec Students Complete Winter Practicum
SARANAC LAKE -- Students in the college’s Wilderness Recreation Leadership program recently completed their winter practicum in the Adirondacks.
The group spent nine days in the Eastern High Peaks, backpacking and learning to navigate and work as a team in colder weather.
The course focused on technical skills such as backcountry skiing and snowshoeing, avalanche awareness, peak ascents, crampon/ice axe use, and shelter building.
In addition to the winter practicum, the WRL program features a fall practicum, where sophomore students spend more than three weeks traveling the backcountry of the Adirondacks, paddling and backpacking.
