Financial Aid Process

Families may need to explore financial aid in the forms of grants and scholarships, loans and work study to help finance their college education. The staff at North Country Community College is committed to helping you and families evaluating all your educational options.

Steps to Receive Aid

The first step to filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is to obtain a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). You can obtain online at www.fsaid.ed.gov The FSA ID allows you to access the Federal Student Aid’s online systems. If a federal dependent student, a parent will also have to apply for an FSAID. It serves as your legal signature (both student and parent) when signing the FAFSA and your Master Promissory note for your Federal Direct Student Loans.

The next step is to complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA is available any time after October 1st for the following academic year. Each year, the FAFSA will use income information from the prior-prior year.  For example, the 2020-2021 academic year is based on the 2018 tax year.  To complete the FAFSA, visit: www.fafsa.ed.gov.
