Nursing student takes another student's blood pressure in a classroomIf you’re our kind of student, you’re looking for a special environment, a no-nonsense place where you’re not just a number. At North Country Community College, we offer a supportive atmosphere where you can find small class sizes, plenty of academic support, and a hands-on approach to the nursing profession.

Our programs give you the opportunity to complete the requirements to become a registered professional nurse (RN) in two years - first completing the requirements to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in one year, with an option to complete the RN requirements in a second, two-semester course.

This unique career-ladder design lets you build your career, and education, without repeating previous courses. Once you complete this second, two-semester course, you’ll be eligible to take the state’s licensing exam to become a registered nurse and be prepared to transfer to a four-year school to complete your bachelor’s degree. At North Country, you will receive an affordable, competitive, quality education in a uniquely supportive collegiate environment. Our faculty are not only your instructors, they're the ones who will support you when you face a challenge, make sure you feel ready for your next test, and know when something outside of school is bugging you and why.

It is our mission to develop skilled nurses who embody the best qualities of the profession: caring, integrity, and advocacy. Graduates of our program will be equipped to make an immediate impact in their community.

The Nursing Program adheres to a career-ladder concept in nursing education that provides upward mobility for students, without repetition of previous education and experience. Courses of study in Nursing consist of a two-semester, full-time Practical Nursing Program and a two-semester, full-time AAS: Nursing (RN) Program for students that have a successful completion of the Practical Nursing Certificate, and eligibility to make application to take the examination for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Completion of the Practical Nursing course of study does not assure admission into the AAS Nursing (RN) Program. Students must apply for entry into this program and compete with all other applicants of that year. Successful completion of the AAS: Nursing (RN) course of study leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree and eligibility to make application to take the New York State Board Nursing examination for licensure as a registered professional nurse.

To enroll in the Nursing programs, students must meet medical and physical eligibility requirements. All students must complete a yearly physical examination, obtain student professional liability insurance and fulfill health, clinical and reporting requirements. View the Program Worksheet
Successful completion of the Practical Nursing course of study leads to a Certificate of Achievement and eligibility to make application to take the examination for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Completion of the Practical Nursing course of study does not assure admission into the AAS: Nursing Program. Students must apply for entry into this program and compete with all other applicants of that year. Since the Practical Nursing Program and the AAS: Nursing Program are separate programs, all individuals, including graduates of the Practical Nursing program at NCCC, must submit an application for consideration for entry into the AAS Nursing Program. *Mandatory Professional Licensure Disclosures:
SUNY's academic programs leading to licensure or certification are carefully designed to meet and exceed New York state requirements. Other states frequently have their own requirements, so if your goal is to practice in another state we encourage you to contact the Nursing Program Director to see what each state requires. Click here for more information regarding state licensure requirements.

Nursing education has been at the core of the college's mission since it was founded more than 50 years ago.
